Counselling

Occasionally we may all need hope, help, and encouragement to sort out a problem or difficulty, or we may be experiencing feelings that concern us. Counselling can help us make sense of what is happening to us as well as support us through difficult periods in our lives. A counsellor will not only listen to you, but will also help you develop your understanding and explore ways of making changes.

Counselling cannot solve all problems and sometimes it is not the most suitable form of help. However, the first time you meet Helen she will discuss with you what help you need and whether she feels that counselling can offer that to you.

Your initial meeting will last for 1.5 hours. If together you decide that counselling may be of help, Helen will arrange to see you for further 1 hour sessions. People need varying times to work through their concerns and this will be reviewed as the counselling progresses.

Helen has specialist training in the use of specific models of counselling including Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, Psycho-dynamic Counselling, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy.

She also has a degree in Eclectic Counselling which enables her to draw on numerous models of counselling to find what works best for you.

Helen works in accordance with the highest professional ethics and and undergoes regular supervision and continuous professional development.

Counselling takes place in a private and confidential setting to explore an issue such as difficulty, distress, dissatisfaction or loss of  direction and purpose.

By listening attentively and patiently Helen can begin to perceive the difficulties from your point of view and can help you to see things more clearly, possibly from a different perspective.

Counselling is – enabling you to choose, change, become clearer.

Counselling is not – advising, directing, judging or exploiting you.

Counselling does enable you

– to explore your life and feelings, freely and openly in a way that is rarely possible with friends or family. Helen will encourage you to express your feelings and as a result of her broad and in-depth training will be able to accept and reflect your problems without becoming burdened by them

– to experience acceptance and trust

– to look at what you may not have considered or been able to face before

– to discover options and the freedom to take them.
