“I came that you might have life in all its abundance”
[Jesus John 10:10]
Your Freedom Break is a transforming opportunity to enter into more of that abundance by becoming aware of, and released from, ingrained fetters – we all have them!
Jesus said, “the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy” [John 10:10] and that he is “a liar and the father of lies” [John 8:44].
Paul described how this works in Ephesians 4:17,18 “no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts.”
Each child is born into an imperfect world, to well-meaning but imperfect parents.
Result 1: the child is hurt. Response: the child learns to toughen up ie ‘harden its heart’.
Result 2: the child learns what ‘life is like’. But ‘life’ ignores God’s Spirit & Truth. Response: the child develops ‘futile’ thinking.
At some point the child may become a Christian, and may learn biblical doctrine and behaviour. Despite good intentions he/she can still find him/herself prey to unhelpful habits [anxiety, angry outbursts, striving, impurity, being religious … ] or fail to live routinely in the love, joy and peace that Jesus promises.
This can be because the ‘Christian’ lifestyle overlays the early years’ hardened heart & futile thinking. ‘Give me the boy until he is 7 and I’ll give you the man’ is an empirically sound cliche!
Your Freedom Break is a time for you to follow the Holy Spirit as He leads you into the truth in your inward part and sets you free from the deep wounds and beliefs that restrict your enjoyment of, and service for, Jesus.
The pattern of sessions would follow that for Focus Breaks.
Steve and Helen were warm, compassionate and kind. They made me feel relaxed and at home. They were very encouraging and I felt ‘honoured’ by them. They were exceedingly generous with their time. Ministry – both the structure and fluidity of the ministry resulted in extremely effective ministry. They led me well – empowered me to walk my own journey with God, but were discerning, wise and encouraging companions along that journey. – client April 2011
